I had accidentally connected jumper cables backwards to my motorcycle for a brief moment. After getting the battery properly charged, the bike still started & ran fine, except none of the audio components worked (radio, CB), clock & trip meter stopped worked, nothing that required memory would work.
While the damage could have been in any of those units, the most likely would be a damage audio unit, which is very expensive. But thanks to generously help from people in the http://gl1800riders.com/forums/index.php message boards, I was able to repair the audio unit with a new 90 cent diode myself. Attached is some photos of the repair. I didn't take a photo with the damage diode still on the circuit board, but it is shown after being removed.
